My Story: A Little Fight, A Lot of Surrender

How It Started

I was always the sick kid; recurring illnesses and infections, and prescriptions on repeat. Through my teen years, things only intensified: mono, Lyme disease, and eventually a ruptured appendix that nearly took my life. It always seemed like I was sicker and struggling more than my peers.

I trusted doctors completely, following every directive without question. When psoriasis started at 18, I was told it was autoimmune and irreversible, and that symptom management would eventually lead to a necessary biologic.

Early on, I had inquired if there was any chance that my diet (which consisted mostly of NOT real food) or my lifestyle (which was…not boring🥳) could be a contributing factor to my less than stellar health status. The answer was firm:

“No. Autoimmune diseases just happen. You’re one of the unlucky ones.”

So I accepted that, and a plethora of other diagnoses through the years, until the birth of my daughter + everything changed.

Around the age of three, she began developing a long list of alarming symptoms. We saw specialists, collected diagnosis after diagnosis, and were offered prescription after prescription. But none of it made sense. How could a child who’d only been on this earth for three short years already be so unwell?

That’s when I started asking the questions that changed everything: Why? What’s the story? What’s causing these symptoms? And just like years earlier when I questioned my own autoimmune diagnosis, I got the same response:

“These things just happen.”

Only this time, I wouldn’t accept it.
Because when it’s your child, the fight in you ignites. The things you didn’t question for yourself, you will turn the world upside down to understand for them.

What followed was years of learning, unlearning, researching, experimenting, praying, and paying close attention to what the body actually responds to when it’s supported properly.

This journey has been humbling, stretching, redemptive, and deeply transformative. I questioned everything I’d ever been taught about health, healing, and the human body. And I would choose to do it again – every single time.

My daughter is a thriving teenager now and (no thanks to the pharmaceutical industry) has recovered from the diagnoses we were told would never resolve.
As for myself, I’ve experienced incredible healing from my own “irreversible” autoimmune diseases and countless symptoms, without prescriptions or biologics.

Lots of prayer and so much surrender. Healing came by understanding the why. Learning the story that the body is holding and expressing through symptoms.
Because the body isn’t broken, it’s communicating.
When you learn to listen, support, and rebuild at the root, it knows exactly how to heal.

How It’s Going

In 2014, I went back to school and became a Holistic Health Practitioner.
In recent years, I’ve added Certified HTMA Practitioner and Functional Nutrition Therapy Practitioner to the list.

Now, I get to walk beside others on their own “why” journey, helping them uncover the story their body has been trying to tell.
Because unraveling symptoms is really about discovering your story, and watching it transform from survival to restoration.

Aside from being my daughter’s mother, it’s the greatest privilege of my life to guide others through that process.
